Title: Erosive Minds
Medium: Pen and watercolour on Fabriano
Dimensions: 34.7 x 49.5 x 0.15 cm

Description:

As usual, I went to Mimi van der Merwe that day, not particularly amused with myself that day. She suggested I just started scratching the paper with a pen. This was the result. The title suggests how the mind can quickly erode itself if it is not fed with inspiration and creativity.

With delicate pen strokes, I explored fragmented shapes and textures to reflect the complexity of thought and emotion. The vibrant red flower bursts through the monochrome layers, symbolizing passion and resilience amid chaos. This piece invites you to feel the tension between fragility and strength, filling your space with dynamic energy and a contemplative mood.

Ancestral Erosions - 2024

"Ancestral Erosions" delves into the profound relationship between the earth's surface and the cultural layers that rest upon it. This exhibition explores soil erosion and environmental degradation as both natural processes and human-induced crises, echoing the erosion of ancestral wisdom, traditions, and our spiritual connection to the land. It is a meditation on what we lose — materially and immaterially — when landscapes are stripped bare.
