Description:
With the Sanlam Portrait Award eminent. I had been planning for almost a year to try find a good portrait.
However during the course of 2025, there were a few hiccups. Apart from not taking any breaks from the time I finished my solo in September 2024. I had been working hard and also running hard. Working towards running a trail marathon in Sabi.
But with a week to go to the race and the time for Sanlam Portrait Award nearing. I ended up dislocating my back. Something I will never forget.
With some wise words from some strong people whom I won't mention. They said, You need to move. Don't stop moving. Now looking back after recovery I am doing much better and grateful for that advice.
Something to remember
Nothing is worth more in this life than your health. The looking glass has incorporated an artwork created by Marizaan van Beek.
The resin ball with a dragonfly embedded in it is deceiving. It toys with the idea that if you plan to juggle many balls in your life. You need to ensure that you only drop the rubber balls and not the glass balls. Since the spherical artwork is not glass it is still very precious and fragile. Dropping it might not break it, but it will certainly never be the same.
In this way, dropping the glass ball of health is catastrophic. Work, finances and relationships are all rubber balls. They cannot replace your death.
I hope that I will learn from this mistake trying to juggle more than is possible and that others will too.
This artwork has been professionally photographed. High quality archival print available.
